Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the American major.
His varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one various events.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," stated world number 14 the champion.
"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent reactions on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
But the player has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a final set.
Moutet defended 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
