Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the incident made him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
